The Program
Committees of Ilisaqsiivk are in some ways the most important
part of all activities that take place at Ilisaqsivik Family
Resource Centre. The committees ensure that all programs that
are delivered at Iliasaqsivik meet the needs of Clyde River
people and are delivered in a cooperative, accountable and
responsible way.
Committee
members are chosen in a variety of ways. In some committees
the members are voted in each December during municipal elections.
Some committee members are chosen by the user group. Some
committees are appointed by the Centre Co-ordinator in consultation
with the user group. All committee members are volunteers,
and have high interest in and deep commitment to the program
areas they represent. The centre director and/or the co-ordinator
of the programs involved is a non-voting advisory member of
each committee.
In some
cases when a new committee has been started, the members are
inexperienced in meeting procedures and the setting of goals
and objectives. As the members of any given committee meet,
the group is encouraged to develop a sense of community and
to develop their individual and collective skills in program
management.
The Program
Committees work closely with the program co-ordinator and,
the centre director to ensure that programs are carried out
according to the Program Committee's expectations.
