    Counselling Elders Project

  • Elders make and collect artifacts
  • Elders are welcomed on a drop-in basis and play games 1 - 3 p.m. every Friday
  • Elders teach parents and children about traditional Inuit lifestyles during the Healthy Children's program.
  • Elders counsel individuals or couples on personal or cultural issues
  • Elders advise on the proper use of Inuktitut

    Archive Project

  • Audio tapes of Elders' stories are being put on CD-ROM disks, and photographs are being entered into the computer to save the tapes and photos forever

    Elders' Oral History project

    Suqqakkut Sewing Project

  • young women learn to sew traditional clothing

    Food Bank

  • For sale in small quantities at low prices: basic items such as rice, flour, tea, baking powder, powdered milk, Similac and soup
  • Open 1 - 5 p.m. daily

    Prenatal Nutrition Program

  • Pregnant and nursing mothers meet from 5 - 6:30 p.m., Monday to Friday to eat and share together
  • Saturday, the group cooks and learns from Elders, videos, games and other instructors about pregnancy and childbirth
  • Under the Federal CPNP program

    Healthy Children

  • For children: educational toys and games, craft supplies, books, audio tapes and videos
  • For parents: a fully-equipped kitchen for cooking programs, and books and videos about parenting
  • Daily program for parents and toddlers from 1 - 3 p.m. weekdays

  • Literacy activities held daily for children 10 - 13

    Ilisaqsivik After-School Program

  • Ilisaqsivik is licensed to operate an after-school program for children aged 5 - 12. The focus is on literacy, crafts, getting along together and having fun.

    Inuit Youth Summer Work Experience Program

  • Four students, aged 16 - 24, each worked full-time with a mentor
  • Children's Program (two students), Leadership Trainee (one student), janitors' helper (one student)
  • Students continue to help out, sometimes voluntarily with Ilisaqsivik programs.
  • Two hired: one in after-school programming, one in administration.

    FRIENDS Peer Counselling and Leadership Group

  • This group of peer helpers for young people focuses on suicide prevention
  • Drop In Centre operates Wednesday and Friday nights

  • The 34 young people who participated in the Walk for Love, Friendship and Suicide Prevention meet every Thursday between 3:30 and 5 p.m. to support each other and learn about personal development

    Young Men's Healing Program

  • Two men work with young men aged 18 - 30 on life development issues, and to build land recreational skills.

    Crime Prevention Project / Youth Program Committee
    In this project, a youth counsellor:

  • Meets with young people for activities such as Drop Ins, skiing, and sports
  • Oversees positive learning activities such as cooking and grooming classes
  • Works with children and youths on good citizenship, and problem solving
  • Does peer counselling with youths

  • Addictions counselling and information

    Irqrinnaqruq Project - North Baffin Personal Development (Suicide Prevention ) Project

  • Seven North Baffin communities - Clyde River, Pond Inlet, Arctic Bay, Resolute Bay, Grise Fiord, Igloolik, and Hall Beach - are working together to enhance the connection within families and communities.
  • How? Through counsellor training, itinerant community counsellors, youth leadership programs, summer youth camps, large regional activities such as the Nunavut Quest, and supporting the establishment of community wellness programs.

    Inuktitut Personal Development Materials Project

  • Healing materials in Inuktitut will become available on our web site. Topics will include suicide, sexual abuse, alcoholism, drug addictions, support for parents and general wellness.
  • Copies of these materials will be distributed to other Nunavut communities

    Nunavut Counsellor Certification Program

  • Twelve participants from across Nunavut took a course in Choice Theory, Reality Therapy and Lead Management.
  • Nine one-week training sessions in Clyde River from Glasser Institute instructor Rick Puteran
  • If successful, participants will be certified by March 2002.

    Men's Healing Program

  • Men meet Monday evenings to talk, play music and make tools
  • When possible, the group sponsors hunting trips to get food for community feasts or needy households

  • Our community library, fully serviced by the territorial government, includes special collections donated by local residents
  • Inuktitut books and tapes
  • Videos, books and pamphlets for families

  • Board games and traditional toys
  • Interlibrary loan services
  • Open 1- 5 p.m. weekdays
  • Books, videos, magazines, Inuktitut reading materials, audio tapes, traditional toys collection, board games
  • Preschool: 1:30 - 2:30 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays
  • New Book Block, every three months

  • Cost to agencies outside of Clyde River for workshops: $100 - $250 per day

    Bookkeeping Training

  • Three Ilisaqsivik administrative staff members are taking Simply Accounting bookkeeping training from Akhaliak Consultants of Rankin Inlet, Nunavut.

    Community Initiatives Project  Funding

  • This supports 30% of the co-ordinator's salary, 25% of the finance officer trainee's salary, 15% of operations and maintenance for the building, and training for web site maintenance

    Web Site Project

  • Ilisaqsivik has developed a web site that will make Inuktitut personal development materials available on the Internet, as well as public policy manuals and program materials published by Ilisaqsivik
