Artifacts

A traditional sod house, or qammaq

A traditional sod house, or qammaq, made by Mina Corket with the help of her mother, Oqqallak Panipak. Note the tiny utensils made by her grandfather, Enuaraq. The dolls or inujaq were made by Pia Paneak.

Toy Kayak

This toy qajaq was created by Ian Tigullaraq, a young person, with information and help from elders.

Inuit qamutik

A qamutik is the long, slatted wooden sled that Inuit use, to be pulled by snow machine or dogteam. This qamutik is the type used by children in our community as they play every day.

Inuit used to play games with bones. This is a seal flipper bone game, inugaat. It is a cooperative game whereby turn by turn a group constructs the model of a family in an igloo.

A bow drill, one of the most important traditional tools to Inuit. Notice the mouthpiece, a bone from a caribou foot.
